Geo:Code Project Idea

The interactive park map is a fantastic application and it would be great to build upon it to give users more search capabilities. A few enhancements could include the following:

 

1. Implement additional search capabilities such as the ability to search for activities (ie: ice skating rinks).

 

2. Add typeahead to the search bar.

 

3. Allow users to select their location or a location on the map.

Where can I recycle???? Where can I re-use??

An app for county employees that shows;

-maps of the county buildings

-hours of facilities

-information regarding road detours or closures that may impact different locations

-Any maintenance/repair work happening in buildings

-Emergency announcements =weather/closings etc. (push notifications?)

App would tell a parent/caretaker where nearby they can have early childhood screenings for kids completed.

We would like to create a digital tool for residents of North Minneapolis to search for and participate in Digital Innovation endeavors. Currently, offerings are disperate and the community is in need a central rallying point from which work to close the digital divide.

Create an app where you can search for public art at Hennepin County Library by location, artist, medium.

Create an app or tool that bikers and pedestrians can use to report any maintenance or trail issues that they find. Ideally it would include the GPS coordinates and allow them to take a picture of the problem. Combining this functionality with some of the other bike/ped ideas submitted (ie the interactive map) would be really sweet!

As a parent, I'm often looking for something to do with the kids. The libraries and parks often have free/cheap activities going on, but it takes some hunting to find out what's going on where when. I'm envisioning something where you could pick a date, then see on a map (or list), what activities are happening where.

Anyone that has Hennepin County data in a KML, KMZ or GPX file, can display that file with Gmap4. Doing so lets you see that data with the familiar Google maps interface together with features that include:
1. Mobile devices display a touch-friendly interface. Desktops/laptops display a mouse interface.
2. Geolocation (on mobile devices) with a symbol that follows you as you move.

Web maps are an integral part of a lot of our community's civic tech projects, and accessibility also is a core value of civic technology. Unfortunately, it can be tricky to navigate what exactly it means to make "accessible maps".

Set up a process to map/identify locations with AEDs. It could be done as a contest where people could form teams and win "badges" or points for how many they submit. Or, businesses could add their own as they add devices. Something similar was done out on the east coast somewhere (Philly or New York maybe?).

Have a way to view/compare historical imagery plat maps, and maybe also incorporate historical census data, old photos, etc. Geneologists, local history buffs and other researchers might use it?
