Currently, Hennepin County owns Adobe LiveCycle. This allows for numerous possibilities that could be incorporated into ideas. The idea I'd like to propose specifically for this event, is to start building some forms that have geolocation embedded into the form that would then determine which service center or provider receives the form or application. (Based on location upon submission.) Could either make the submission ...more »
Libraries got new signage, awhile back, with a lighted display indicating whether the site is open or closed. To improve, add more display (like to show time, temperature, and other LOCAL info, such as snow emergencies, severe weather alerts, community events, etc. Many patrons thought the money spent on the signs could have been better used, although we explained that they were paid for by a separate fund. Suppose a government org or a private group wanted to create a photo tour for a particular theme, such as the murals of South Minneapolis, or historic buildings in NE, or homes of famous people. Lets build/recommend a platform that groups could use and then donate the tour to a central public website that locals and tourists could access. OpenStreetMaps? ArcGIS?
As the Blue Line was built and then in operation, how did property values and rental rates near the line change in comparison to the rest of the city?
Anyone that has Hennepin County data in a KML, KMZ or GPX file, can display that file with Gmap4. Doing so lets you see that data with the familiar Google maps interface together with features that include: 1. Mobile devices display a touch-friendly interface. Desktops/laptops display a mouse interface. 2. Geolocation (on mobile devices) with a symbol that follows you as you move. 3. Display a USNG grid. (Federal ...more »
Create an app that would allow users to input barriers to accessibility by storing the GPS location along with a description and optional photos. These barriers would appear on a map for others to use in planning routes and would also be automatically sent to the appropriate ADA Coordinator.
Individual apps meeting various needs are nice, but what if we combined them into one main platform so everyone knew where to go to find things like recycling info, events at libraries, business resources, community engagement events, etc. etc.
Create an app which shows reported potholes on a map and has an audio alert system. Users can report potholes with the app or through the existing reporting page online and could turn off the alert if they're already aware of the pothole. Minneapolis has a city service reporting app, perhaps we could use some of their reported information on potholes?
Create an app where you can search for public art at Hennepin County Library by location, artist, medium.
Buses are great, except when they are early or really late, or there's a detour you didn't realize was in effect. Same for the lightrail, although it doesn't experience time problems as much. What would be really helpful is an app that has all the stops for all the public transportation, what buses stop there (with the option to see the route right there on the map), and most importantly, where the bus is RIGHT NOW. ...more »
I'm working the reception desk. Someone asked me a question in Laotian? Spanish? Russian? Help! I don't speak those languages. "ding!" I send out an SOS on my language apps. App would tell a parent/caretaker where nearby they can have early childhood screenings for kids completed.
